In addition, Couples has finished high several times in championships on the PGA and has achieved great success both on and off the course. One area where he has seen a lot of success is in golf course design, where he takes his knowledge of the game and applies it to the course. Couples Bates Golf Design was a company created by Fred Couples that has designed some of the top golf courses in the country, including Carolina National in Myrtle Beach.

 

Carolina National in Myrtle Beach is build on the Winding River Plantation and is the first course in Carolina designed by Fred Couples. An 18-hole championship course, it features an innovative design that makes it a challenge to every single skill level, an excellent addition to Myrtle Beach golf.This course has won several awards as well.

It was ranked as the top coastal course in 1998 by Carolina Magazine, one of the finest golf courses on the Eastern Seaboard by Golf Digest in 1998, one of the top 50 golf courses in Myrtle Beach by Golf Digest in 2005 and 2006. It was also named the best affordable public course in North Carolina by Golf Digest in 1997, and the number one affordable public course in North America by Golf Digest in 1998. In addition, it is also a Certified Audubon Sanctuary and the LPGA Tour Qualifying School Course.

With Carolina National, it is clear that Couples has taken his skill on the PGA and applied it to the course that is one of the best in North America, and one of the most affordable as well. A true Myrtle Beach gem.
