Arthur Hills is one of the leading golf course architects alive today. Since graduating with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture, he has designed over 180 courses across the planet. In addition, his firm has renovated or modified an additional 120 courses, including several courses that have been used in PGA Championship rounds.
Hill has described his personal involvement with golf course architecture as beginning with the participation in the development of the golf course routing plan and the generation of design and grading concepts that are relative to the strategy of individual holes. Throughout the design process, Hill gets involved in the construction, promotion and provides on-going consultation even after the golf course has opened.
Myrtle Beach has the honor of an Arthur Hill golf course, the Pine Hills Course at Myrtlewood. This golf course is one of the best in Myrtle Beach and was even voted by Golf Digest in 1997 as one of the top 10 layout courses in the entire area. It is also one of the most sought after courses on the Grand Strand today. A modern masterpiece, it has Bentgrass greens, contoured fairways and strategic bunkers that create a beautiful and challenging course that has hosted some very big events for golf. There are also practice facilities, putting greens, a chipping area, a target range and an 8,000 square foot clubhouse that serves all the needs of the golfers who come out to this excellent course. Truly, a masterpiece in Myrtle Beach golf.
Arthur Hill is one of the most well-known golf architects alive today. With over 200 golf courses carrying the mark of his genius, there are few avid golfers in North America who have not played any of his courses. To play an Arthur Hill course is to play a course that will challenge you with its strategy, but delight you with the beauty it possess along the natural contours of the landscape. A true master of design, Arthur Hill will be remembered as a golf architect who understood the game of golf and the needs of golfers. He has never been afraid to get his hands dirty with his golf courses, and that commitment shows with every golf course he builds or remodels.
